Rohit Sharma's team have retained some top players from the squad that won the last edition of the competition with some brilliant all-round display. With players such as Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga, who were superb last year, retained, they will only buy players which fit their bill perfectly this time around. They have retained 19 players -- most in the competition -- and hence have the least money in the auction, which is Rs 14.40 crore. With limited money in their kitty, they cannot afford to let any penny go waste.

KKR, which is one of the most popular teams in the IPL, have retained 15 players, which includes some big guns such as Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Andre Russell, Chris Lynn and others. One look at their retained players reflects that the team may be required to sign a quality fast bowler. Dale Steyn is one player who they might target during the auction.

They have Rs 21.62 crore in their kitty and can even sign some other big guns like Kevin Pietersen, which will strengthen their batting line up to the hilt.

With a purse of Rs 30.15 crore, they can dig in deep and get players of their choice, irrespective of the cost. Their key target should be a quality wicket-keeper batsman like Jos Buttler, who is expected to command huge money in the auction.

Though the team boasts quality foreign batsmen such as Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh and George Bailey, they need to sign some good India batsmen. Kings XI may do themselves a favour if they sign Dinesh Kathik, who is a quality wicket-keeper batsman.

They will need to spend big on batsmen of top quality as they are going to be in huge demand. Players like Guptill and Pietersen should be on Delhi's radar.

The new team on the block signed five players in December draft and are expected to be one the busiest franchises during the auction as they need to buy more than 15 players in the auction. They have 27 crore in their kitty. With Pune signing MS Dhoni, Faf du Plessis, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith as batsmen and only one bowler in Ravichandran Ashwin, they have to focus on quality fast bowlers and all-rounders in the auction along with some batsmen.

Gujarat Lions
The Rajkot-based franchise, who are the other new team in the IPL, were smart in December draft as they signed quality all-rounders such as Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja and James Faulkner, while Suresh Raina and Brendon McCullum are the two batsmen in the team so far. Like Pune, Gujarat Lions need to shell some money on bowlers in the auction.
